The Schwinn Fitness 230 Recumbent Bike, Model Year 2020, retains its high build quality from previous versions but now offers Bluetooth connectivity to compatible fitness apps on your own mobile device such as the “Explore the World” app and “Zwift” app (subscription required for Apps) for a wealth of training workouts and virtual routes from around the world.

Even without the Apps, the Schwinn Fitness 230 MY20 Recumbent Exercise Bike’s console still offers a great range of workouts with 13 programs and 16 magnetic resistance levels to keep you challenged and motivated.

As with previous versions, the Schwinn Fitness 230 Recumbent Bike Model Year 2020, utilizes a high-speed high-inertia perimeter weighted flywheel together with magnetic resistance, ensuring smooth and quiet operation throughout your workouts.

The Schwinn Fitness 230 Recumbent Bike’s console has been streamlined for ease of use and features a 5.5” LCD screen which displays motivating workout data as you exercise including: Time, Speed, Distance, RPM, Calories burned, and Heart-rate. Your heart-rate can be measured in one of two ways: either via the integrated pulse grip sensors in the handlebars by the side of the seat, or via telemetry heart-rate strap (not included).

The original Schwinn 230 did not offer telemetry heart-rate monitoring or have Bluetooth connectivity so that’s an upgrade for this 2020 model and as previously mentioned allows you to connect to popular training and tracking-tool apps on your own mobile device.  There’s a handy media shelf on the recumbent bike’s console to place your mobile phone or tablet.  Compatible apps include:

·         Explore the World* – 50+ global routes that auto-adjust in real time to your speed

·         Zwift* – 1000 structured workouts and 80+ virtual routes

*Subscription required.  Remember you don’t have to subscribe to the Apps, you can still use the Schwinn 230 with its 13 built-in programs.

The Schwinn Fitness 230 Recumbent Bike, Model Year 2020, features a ventilated and contoured seat with lumbar supporting backrest.  The ventilation in the seat helps to keep you cool as you exercise, but if you prefer a more padded seat you may want to add a cushion!  The seat is adjustable for different user heights with its easy-to-use slider seat rail system which brings you closer/lower to or further/higher away from the pedals.

Sturdily constructed, the Schwinn Fitness 230 MY20 Recumbent Bike allows for a maximum user weight capacity of 300 lbs.  The bike itself weighs around 80 lbs and measures approximately 64” long x 27.7” wide x 49.9” high.  The Schwinn 230 is electric-powered, and can be plugged into a standard electrical wall outlet (AC power adapter included).

Schwinn A20 versus Schwinn 230 Recumbent Exercise Bike, Comparison Review

The Schwinn A20 and Schwinn 230 are high-quality recumbent exercise bikes constructed with an ergonomic design for a comfortable workout. Both the Schwinn A20 and 230 recumbent bikes are designed with a low-step through frame design to make them easy to mount and dismount, while the low-impact nature of recumbent bikes means that you can exercise without the jarring impact on your body that comes with many other types of workouts.

Both the Schwinn A20 and Schwinn 230 recumbent exercise bikes utilize a high-quality drive-train, combining a perimeter weighted flywheel with Eddy Current magnetic resistance for super smooth and quiet operation throughout your workout.

The Schwinn 230 is the higher-end recumbent bike over the Schwinn A20 with a wider range of features and a slightly better overall build construction.  If you take a look at the pictures, you can see the difference in the overall bike design (including the seat) between the Schwinn A20 and 230 plus the different console design between each bike.

Being the higher-end recumbent exercise bike, the Schwinn 230 offers more resistance levels (20 levels on the 230 compared to 8 levels on the A20) and more program variety (22 programs on the 230 compared to 7 on the A20).  The Schwinn 230’s console also features a dual-screen display compared to the single screen display on the A20.  The Schwinn 230’s console also incorporates a range of premium features that the A20 does not have, including a USB charging / data export port, a 3-speed cooling fan, and 2 user profiles (the A20 only has 1 user profile).

Both the Schwinn A20 and 230 consoles do feature an integrated media shelf to place your own mobile phone/tablet to keep entertained as you exercise and both consoles also feature sound speakers with MP3 input so you can listen to your favorite music as you cycle.

Although the Schwinn A20 is the entry-level recumbent bike and its console does not have all the features of the Schwinn 230, its more streamlined console design makes it easier to use and is ideal for beginners or those who aren’t bothered about too much variety in their workouts.  Both recumbent bikes offer a Quick Start option with which you can just get on and workout at your own pace without any fuss or complicated menus to decipher!

Both the Schwinn A20 and Schwinn 230’s consoles display motivating workout stats as you exercise including time, speed, distance, RPM, calories burned and heart-rate.  Your heart-rate is measured on both recumbent bikes via the built-in contact pulse-grip sensors in the handlebars by the side of the seat.

The Schwinn A20 and Schwinn 230 recumbent exercise bikes come with a differently designed seat – the Schwinn A20 features a padded seat and backrest designed for comfort, while the Schwinn 230 features a vented seat and backrest which is designed for better airflow to help keep you cool as you cycle.  Both recumbent bikes feature a sliding seat rail system to accommodate different user heights but the adjustment design differs between the two bikes with the A20 utilizing a locking pin/knob and the 230 utilizing an easy-adjust lever.

Specifications, i.e. dimensions/weight, between these two recumbent bikes vary slightly and being the higher-end recumbent bike, the Schwinn 230 is the heavier and larger of the two machines and therefore offers a slightly higher user weight capacity of up to 300 lbs compared to the A20’s 275 lbs user weight capacity (see full specifications listed in the comparison tables below).

One other point worth mentioning is that the Schwinn A20’s console can be either battery-powered or electrically-powered with the optional AC adapter (i.e. the AC adapter is not included with the A20 but can be purchased separately), whereas the AC adapter is included with the Schwinn 230.

Both recumbent bikes come with a generous manufacturer’s warranty, but as you would expect, the higher-end Schwinn 230 comes with a better manufacturer’s warranty compared to the A20 (see full details listed in the comparison tables below).

Motivational tip:  Cycling for just 30 minutes on a recumbent bike could burn between 207-345 calories for ladies, or 252-420 calories for men, depending on the intensity of the workout.

Let’s take a glance at the main differences and similarities in features and specifications between the Schwinn A20 versus the Schwinn 230 laid out in the easy-to-read comparison tables below to help you decide on which is the best recumbent bike for you:

Schwinn 230 versus Schwinn 270 Recumbent Exercise Bike, Comparison Review

Both the Schwinn 230 and Schwinn 270 Recumbent Exercise Bikes are manufactured to high standards, as you would expect from a top manufacturer experienced in manufacturing bicycles. Both the Schwinn 230 and 270 recumbent bikes come highly rated and have lots of features to offer the user, so just what is the difference between the two?

To begin the comparison: the Schwinn 270 Recumbent Bike is the up-graded model over the 230, with some extra features like more resistance levels (25 versus 20), more programs (29 versus 22), more user profiles (4 versus 2), has a blue backlit display on the console compared to grey, is telemetry enabled, and has Bluetooth connectivity which the Schwinn 230 doesn't have.  In addition, the Schwinn 270 incorporates other upgrades including a better crank system and more comfy seat.

But as you would expect, the additional features of the Schwinn 270 come with a higher price tag.  So do you really need the extra features and are they worth paying the extra money for?  See the comparison charts below for full features and specifications compared to help you make your decision.

In general, recumbent exercise bikes have a large seat with back support and are ideal for people who want to exercise but find other forms of exercise too painful on their back or joints.  Because exercise bikes offer a low impact form of exercise, these Schwinn recumbent bikes offer the user a way of exercising that is gentle on your joints, while still giving you a good workout.  So the combination of a large seat with back support and the low-impact nature of exercise bikes make recumbent bikes ideal for anyone new to exercise or anyone who has old injuries they don’t want to aggrevate but who have been advised to exercise.

Motivational tip:  Cycling for just 30 minutes on a recumbent bike can burn between 207-345 calories for ladies, or 252-420 calories for men, depending on the intensity of the workout.

The Schwinn Journey 2.0 Recumbent Exercise Bike has also been named as the Schwinn 230 and is the exact same bike with the same build quality, features and specifications.

The Schwinn Journey 2.0 Recumbent Bike utilizes a high-speed high-inertia perimeter weighted flywheel together with ECB magnetic resistance for smooth and quiet operation.

No matter what level of fitness you’re at, there are plenty of options to keep your workouts interesting and challenging with the Schwinn Journey 2.0’s 20 resistance levels and 22 preset programs including profile, heart-rate, custom, fitness tests and quick start program.

The Schwinn Journey 2.0 Recumbent Bike allows for 2 different user profiles and you can track up to 13 different workout stats on the console’s Dual Track 2 LCD screens.  Motivating stats displayed include time, RPM, speed, distance, pulse heart-rate (via contact grip sensors in the handlebars by the side of the seat), calories burned, intensity, resistance, course profile, % complete, heart rate zone indicator, user indicator, and goal achievement.

You can even keep track of your workout stats online by transferring your data via the console’s USB port to Schwinn Connect or My Fitness Pal.  The USB port can also be used as a charging port to charge your own mobile phone/tablet.

Additional premium features of the Schwinn Journey 2.0’s console include acoustic chambered speakers with MP3 input, media shelf, and 3-speed cooling fan.  The sound system found on this recumbent bike is surprisingly good for exercise machines particularly at this low price point, and the cooling fan is also very effective unlike fans found on some machines which are typically not very powerful at all.

Like most recumbent bikes, the Schwinn Journey 2.0 is easy to mount and dismount thanks to its low step-through frame design.  The seat itself is adjustable for different user heights (via its easy-to-use seat adjustment lever and sliding seat rail) and is designed for user comfort with a contoured vented seat bottom and large vented backrest for support and airflow.  There’s also a useful water bottle holder mounted at the side of the seat so you can keep hydrated as you cycle.

The Schwinn Journey 2.0 is a solidly built recumbent bike.  It’s constructed with a single frame and large mid-frame support, along with 2 integrated levelers for additional stability, providing an amazingly solid platform overall.  Being so sturdily built, this recumbent bike allows for a higher user weight capacity compared to most other recumbent bikes in this low price range – for users up to 300 lbs.
