Welcome to my blog. I hope you find my reviews on exercise bikes helpful and interesting.
I aim to cover the features and compare differences of a variety of exercise bikes on the market both old and new, to help you decide which is the best exercise bike for you, your needs and your budget!
Exercise bikes are a great way to keep fit and workout in the comfort of your own home. No more hassle having to go to the gym or risk the dangers of cycling outdoors on the busy roads in all weathers.
Fitness Motivation Tip:
Did you know that working out on an exercise bike for just 30 MINUTES helps to burn the following calories:
- Between 207-345 calories burned for women.
- Between 252-420 calories burned for men.
Actual calories burned will depend on the intensity of the workout.
Low-impact Exercise
Exercise bikes give you a great workout but with low-impact on your joints compared to other types of exercise machines such as treadmills. This is because your weight is supported by the exercise bike and there is less force on your joints, ligaments, and spine.
There are several different types of exercise bikes including:
- Upright exercise bikes.
- Compact/folding exercise bikes.
- Recumbent exercise bikes.
- Airdyne / Fan exercise bikes.
- Pro / Spinning exercise bikes.
Upright exercise bike |
Upright exercise bikes are the most commonly known type of exercise bike and usually offer several programs and resistance levels together with a console display showing achievements.
Compact/folding exercise bike |
Compact/folding exercise bikes are great space savers if you don't have much room for exercise equipment in your home. Quite often these Compact exercise bikes fold-up when not in use to save even more space.
Recumbent exercise bike |
Recumbent exercise bikes have a proper seat with a back, and are ideal if you need some back support while exercising.
Airdyne exercise bike |
Airdyne / Fan exercise bikes are based on wind resistance - the harder you pedal, the higher the resistance becomes. Most Airdyne exercise bikes have a dual-action system whereby you can work both the upper and lower body together or separately.
Pro exercise bike |
Many exercise bikes offer several programs and levels of resistance to build yourself up and to keep you motivated. They usually come with a readout display indicating goal achievements such as distance, speed, time, calories, pulse, etc. Different exercise bikes have different features, build-quality, programs, accessories, size, acceptable user weight, number of different users able to use the console, etc. Generally, compact/folding exercise bikes are more basic and pro/spinning exercise bikes don't come with all the bells and whistles, such as programmable workouts, of an upright exercise bike.
